Songye occupying theEastern one are, from the cultural and linguistic point of view, very related in Luba. The two people locate the origin of their respective kingdoms in the area of the lakes located at Shaba. The art of Songye understands mainly robust and vigorous sculptures as of the masks which are characterized by aspects with the geometrical features and strongly striated parts. The statues songye are not symbols of being able. In fact rather personal assistances can be used either to obtain protection or the cure, or like therapeutic means. They are objects of force or figures magic which are called mankishi (in the singular: nkishi). These statues are not so much appraisals because of their appearance. They are it rather because of magic ingredients (bishima) dissimulated in the belly or the horns and prepared by the specialist in the rites (nganga) starting from animal, vegetable or mineral substances. These ingredients can be divided into two categories: on the one hand substances of which the aggressive effect fights against the source of the harmful actions and on the other hand substances which exert a beneficial influence on the patient. The sculptor carries out only the figurative container that the nganga activates thereafter.
