Luba

Luba
Luba (Baluba in tchiluba) are people of central Africa. Their cradle is Katanga, more precisely the area of the Lubu river, of or the name (Baluba, which want to say “Lubas”). They were born from a secession of the Songhoy ethnos group, under the direction of Ilunga Kalala which made die old king Kongolo venerated since in the shape of a python. At the 16th century they created a state, organized in cheffery decentralized, which extended from the Kasaï river to the lake Tanganyika.Les chefferies recover a small territory without true border which gathers 3 villages at most. However the various chefferies are bound by the trade. The outstanding figures of this Luba monarchy are the kings Kongolo, Kalala Ilunga (16th century) and the successors Kasongo Nyembo and Kabongo. Balubas often split giving rise to Bena-Lulua and to Lunda. Thus Mwata Yamvo, emperor lunda was born from a father luba, and Brace Tshombe, one of these descendant, is thus also of origin luba. At the 19th century the lubas could not face the attacks of Tchokwé, lélés and Yékés.
